On May 20, 2023, Maryland Chapter Gold Star Moms, Janice Chance, Paula Davis, Kelly Swanson, and Gold Star Dad Charlton Chance attended the PenFed Foundation’s Night of Heroes Gala. It was an amazing night celebrating and honoring extraordinary Individuals who are passionate supporters of our military community. All proceeds from the event go toward supporting the PenFed Foundation’s efforts to assist service members and veterans with securing a future of strength and stability.
After the Presentation of Colors by U.S. Navy Sea Cadets, and the National Anthem sung by Luis Avila, Maryland Chapter Gold Star Mother Janice Chance delivered the Invocation. We were served a delicious dinner. Guests were also entertained with great music from Voices of Service who sang several inspirational and patriotic songs and had the guests sing along! The program was Emceed by National award-winning journalist, Jonathan Elias, Anchor WJLA. It was truly an honor to be present at an occasion that highlighted the bedrock values of Service, Courage, and Patriotism.
Four extraordinary Honorees were recognized for their service and sacrifice at home, in the community, and for the nation.
The Honorees were:
Corporate Hero Award, Kathy Warden, Chair, CEO and President, Northrop Grumman
Military Hero Award, Dr. Mark Esper, 27th Secretary of Defense
National Impact Hero Award, Lisa Hallett, Executive Director and Co-Founder, Wear Blue: Run to Remember
Also honored for his lifetime of service was Marine Ed Dauksz, Foundation Director Emeritus.
A special thank you to CSM(Ret) David Clark, Vice President PenFed Foundation, and his team member Ms. Katie Watson, Program Manager Military Heroes for coordinating and supporting our mission to Honor through Service.
