The Maryland Gold Star Mothers were invited to the American Red Cross, Tiffany Circle Chairman’s Dinner. This special event celebrated the impact of a community of women leaders who support and engage in the lifesaving mission of the American Red Cross. Special Honorees were the Women and Men in the U.S. Armed Forces. The evening’s guest speakers were Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, Chairman of the Board, and Lt. General Russel L. Honoree. Chairman of the Board Bonnie McElveen-Hunter gave an inspiring speech. She then led us in a celebration of our heroes in uniform, the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Lt. General Honore gave an arousing speech. He was the commander of Joint Task Force Katrina, he became known as the “Category 5 Gen.” for his striking leadership style in coordinating military relief efforts in post-hurricane New Orleans. He is a decorated 37-year army veteran and global authority on leadership. He also has authored three books. One of them is titled, “Don’t Get Stuck on Stupid.” The general became a Red Cross volunteer when he retired from the Military. The evening was capped by The Tower House Band comprised of active and retired military musicians. The Band had everyone singing and dancing on the dance floor! It was an incredible evening. Gold Star Mothers and guests included Basmattie Bishundat, Rosemarie Ceo, Janice and Charlton Chance, Jenine Melton, Paula Davis, Julie and David El-Taher, Yvonne and Garry Green, Mary King, Donna Robinson, Stephanie White, and Virginia Gold Star Mom and Dad, Rose and Bill Duval.
