American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Baby Shower Basket Assembly Day Event American Legion Post 238 Brandywine Road, Hughesville, MD November 6, 2021

Ms. Tyra Nelson, Director American Legion Auxiliary D.C Site Director invited Gold Star Mothers Maryland Chapter members, families and other volunteers to help assemble baby shower baskets for their special event.

Ms. Nelson, Mayvee Smith Unit 233 President, Annette Ellis USMC (retired), Joyce Brown Department Legislative Chairman along with members of the American Legion Post 238 decided to demonstrate their support of military families by sponsoring a baby shower for expectant service members and/or spouses with the rank of Private to Sergeant.  The event is scheduled to be held on November 13, 2021 at the American Legion Post 238 from 11:00 AM -2:00 PM.

Donna Robinson, Maria Chambers, Basmattie Bishundat and Janice Chance Represented the MD Chapter.  They were joined by Peatoria Perdue, gold star niece; LT Meshondra Collins U.S Navy, Perioperative Nurse Corps Officer and Nurse Manager of the Intensive care units at the VA Medical Health Care Center Baltimore, MD; Marcella Ferguson, Blue Star mother of Trevone Ferguson USMC; Patricia Bennett, friend of Janice Chance, Rodney Morris US Army Veteran & VA Medical Center volunteer as well as Kim Cyprien, former VA Medical Center volunteer. Members of post 238 Auxiliary along with other volunteers worked together to assemble approximately 80 baskets.  The MD Chapter and the American Gold Star Mothers donated several items including diapers and wipes. The National Executive Board of American Gold Star Mothers also donated $1,000 towards items for this event.

There was much laughter and the atmosphere was electric as the volunteers worked together in support of some of our country’s Heroes and their families.  The leadership team expressed their appreciation to the volunteers for their help and the Post provided lunch for the volunteers.
