On October 3, 2023, Maryland Gold Star Moms Basmattie Bishundat, Janice Chance, Paula Davis, Theresa Karson, Donna Robinson, Stephanie White, Gold Star Dads, Charlton Chance, Bill Karson, and guests Willis Bazin and Earl Ruff attended the United States Navy Memorial 2023 Lone Sailor Awards Dinner held at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. Trione Vineyards & Winery sponsored a table for the Gold Star Mothers and the Gold Star Dads.
This annual celebration exemplifies the United States Navy Memorial’s mission to Honor, Recognize, and Celebrate the men and women of the Sea Services, past and present. This year’s honorees exemplified what service to our Nation is; service that includes support for our maritime interests and national defense with partners in Congress; service that ensures our national defense and national security remain a dominant force.
The distinguished 2023 recipients of the prestigious Lone Sailor Award were Robert Work, Former Deputy Secretary of Defense, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran & National Security Professional, and Susan Collins, U.S. Senator for Maine, Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and William Goines, Retired U.S. Navy Master Chief, First African American Navy SEAL. These honorees are the embodiment of the pillars of service, the Navy’s core values, and the attributes that make our Nation great.
