American Legion Post 276 11th Annual Maryland Marathon Bluegrass Jam Fisher House Foundation Fundraiser Severn, Maryland October 2, 2021

Gold Star Mothers and family members were invited by Mr. Neil Hamrick, Fundraiser Chairman of the Annual Marathon Bluegrass Jam to volunteer again at their special event.  Maryland Gold Star Mother Janice Chance and Gold Star family members Peatoria Purdue and LT Meshondra T. Collins, USN, Perioperative Nurse Corps Officer represented the MD Chapter.  Nolan Diggs USMC veteran also joined the moms that partnered with Amy Kriner who serves as the lead coordinator for Leidos employee volunteers.  As expected, the number of volunteers and attendees were lower this year due to concerns about the spread of the Coronavirus. Janice, Peatoria, and Nolan assisted with the yard sale items along with Amy.  Additionally, Janice gave a $500 donation check and remarks on behalf of the MD Chapter.  It appeared that the everyone was enjoying the food, fellowship and the great music that helped provide an atmosphere of excitement.  Janice, Peatoria, Meshondra and Nolan considered it a blessing to be able to participate in the event that provided them with another opportunity to meet and thank many veterans, their families and other patriots.  The Maryland Marathon Jam committee invited local bands to participate in 8 hours of non-stop bluegrass music.  Since 2009, the recipient of this annual fundraiser continues to be the Fisher House Foundation, which is best known for building comfort homes where military & veteran families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital. The homes are located at military and VA medical centers around the world. This charity was chosen because of their excellent rating and for the services and support that they provide to our heroes and their families.
