American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Department of Maryland, Inc. 33rd Annual “Day for God and Country” Sabillasville, Maryland June 12, 2022

Ms. Georgia Myers, President of the Western Maryland ALA District invited Gold Star Mothers and Members to attend their 33rd Annual “For God and Country Day” program at Camp West Mar.   

 

Julie El-Tahor and Janice Chance represented the Maryland Chapter and Sandy Seidel represented the Gold Star Mothers Central PA Chapter. Janice is also a member of ALA Carroll Unit Post 31. The following was printed in the program about the event “The program was begun by the late Bertha Tressler, when she was District President, as a way of honoring those who served in all wars to protect our country and our freedoms.  Along with honoring the veterans of these wars and conflicts we also honor the Gold Star Mothers and Members, who suffered the greatest loss, as their family members gave up their lives for their country.  They are a special group deserving of our care and respect.” 

 

Western MD Department Officers, other ALA representatives and Janice spoke briefly during the ceremony. The keynote speaker was William Trotter, ALA Commander.  A Memorial wreath was placed to honor and remember fallen heroes from WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon/Grenada/Panama, Desert Storm, POW/MIA, September 11th, Afghanistan/Iraq conflicts. Conclusion of the ceremony included a twenty-one gun salute, TAPS, closing remarks, the benediction and the retirement of Colors.
