Once again, Maryland Gold Star Mothers were invited to volunteer at the American Freedom Fund (AFF) 8th Annual Veterans Award Gala, Manhattans, Martinis & Mistletoe event. The Annual Manhattans Martinis & Mistletoe event is hosted by the American Freedom Fund (AFF) for their annual Veterans Service Organization Fundraiser. The mission of the American Freedom Fund is to empower Veterans through their athletic, educational, and advocacy programs in Washington, D.C., and across America. Each year, AFF honors three outstanding Veteran-focused organizations for their dedication and support to the Veteran community. This event also provides AFF the opportunity to recognize and celebrate military influencers, legislators and others who continue to set the standard in the mission of empowering the Veteran community. The goal of AFF is simple: provide a place for active duty and Veteran service members to come together in a spirit of camaraderie to participate in recreational AND competitive sports; to afford the means and opportunity for student Veterans who seek a career in defense or public policy to achieve the next step in their goals; and to raise awareness and financial support for Veteran-focused organizations that are providing crucial resources for Veterans in the community. This year marked their eighth year of recognizing organizations who serve and support veterans, and active-duty service members, and honor and remember service members who made the ultimate sacrifice. Gold Star Moms Basmattie Bishundat, Paula Davis, Joy Goode, Yvonne Green, and Gold Star Dads, Greg Goode and Garry Green, Sr. served as Greeters and handed out plastic toy soldiers to guests to remember those who had given the ultimate sacrifice. The event was well attended and was another memorable event.
