On January 26, 2024, The Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs (MDDVA) Cemetery Program hosted four dignified burial ceremonies to honor and pay respect to unaccompanied veterans at the Eastern Shore, Crownsville, Rocky Gap and Garrison Forest Veterans Cemeteries. An unaccompanied service means that the veteran’s family members would not be present at their burial service. Veteran Service organizations, veterans, active-duty service members, local legislators, community organizations, as well as the general public were invited to attend. Janice Chance represented the Maryland Chapter. The Maryland Patriot Guard riders and members formed a flag honor line and there were members from several veteran service organizations in attendance.
Ms. Cynthia D’Amico, Assistant Superintendent Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery officiated the ceremony. The following Veterans received Final Honors:

Janice had the opportunity to reconnect with several veterans and to meet and thank several other veterans for their selfless service and sacrifice on behalf of the MD Chapter. Doc Aaron Dockery USAF VFW MD District 7 Commander and Mike Lecza USARMY, Department of MD Trustee were two of the veterans that she thanked. The Gold Star Mothers are committed to continue to honor and remember our Heroes. We will never forget their selfless service and sacrifice!!
