National Salute to Veterans Week Loch Raven VA Medical Health Care Center Baltimore, Maryland February 16, 2024

Maryland Gold Star Mothers, Paula Davis, Theresa Karlson, Janice Chance, and Donna Robinson were able to visit our Veteran patients for the National Salute to Veterans week at the Loch Raven VA Medical Center.  The Moms were joined by Marine Corps League, Baltimore Detachment members Earl Ruff, Jr., Commandant; Marian James, Senior Vice Commandant and Raymond Vaughn, Junior Vice Commandant.  Many thanks to Pamela Greene, Voluntary Specialist for the Loch Raven VA Medical Center for coordinating our visit.

During the visit, the Gold Star Moms and the Marine Corps League members distributed gift bags, filled with items such as a Valentines teddy bear, miniature balloon heart, toiletry items, including toothbrush, mouthwash and tooth paste as well as a pen, notebook and puzzle books. Also, Marian James provided her special, hand crocheted blankets, as well as handwritten thank you cards for the patients. During the visit, our heroes were thanked for their selfless service and sacrifice to our country. The Moms rendered to the heroes what they lovingly refer to as their “Gold Star Mothers Hand Salute” which resulted in smiles, as they also responded by rendering a hand salute.

As we presented the items to each veteran, we had the opportunity to talk to them and thank them for their service. They all thanked us and from the smiles all around, we could tell they truly appreciated our visit.  The Moms were honored to have the opportunity to salute the Veterans. As one patient exclaimed to us, “You all made my day!”
