More than 80 Veterans from Maine were welcomed to American Legion Post 60 on September 16. The Veterans and their Guardians were escorted by the American Legion Post 60 Riders from Washington, D.C., to Laurel, Maryland, where they were greeted by a flag line and many volunteers. Among the honored Veterans was a 90-year-old World War II Veteran, along with several Vietnam War Veterans. Participating in an Honor Flight trip gives Veterans the opportunity to share this momentous occasion with fellow comrades, remember the fallen, and share their stories and experiences with other Veterans. Honored Veterans always travel free of charge, thanks to generous donations to the organization. Theresa Karlson and Khadidja Keita represented the Gold Star Mothers Maryland Chapter by serving delicious food provided by Mission BBQ. We look forward to welcoming our Honor Flight Veterans when they arrive at BWI in the near future.
A letter to the Commander and Staff of American Legion Post #60 in Laurel, Maryland:
Dear Commander and Members of the Post #60 Family,
On behalf of myself and I’m sure all of those Veterans who were on the Honor Flight Maine, please accept our deepest and most heartfelt thanks for the extraordinary welcome you gave us.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that Post #60 had gone above and beyond to make our visit meaningful, respectful, and unforgettable. The color guard, flag barriers, and Junior ROTC cadets created a moving display of patriotism and appreciation that touched every one of us.
I also want to offer special recognition to the wonderful young ladies who served meals to everyone. Their kindness, energy, courtesy, and cheerful spirit were truly outstanding. You all made us feel welcomed, cared for, and honored in a way that words can scarcely express.
Many of us have received thanks over the years, but I can honestly say that I have never felt as honored as you made me feel this past Saturday. The warmth, respect, and genuine appreciation shown by everyone at American Legion Post #60 made the experience very special. It is a memory I will cherish forever.
Thank you for your generosity, your patriotism, and for reminding us all that service and sacrifice are remembered and valued. Please know that your efforts made a lasting impression on all the Veterans who were on this Honor Flight Maine visit.
