21th Annual Ride Allegheny (RA) & Operation Second Chance (OSC) Fundraiser Event Gaithersburg, MD October 4, 2026

The Gold Star Mothers – Maryland Chapter was honored to be invited by Ms. Cindy McGrew, Founder and President of Operation Second Chance (OSC), to volunteer at the Annual Ride Allegheny (RA) Fundraising Ride. This special event brings together cyclists, families, friends, sponsors, and volunteers in support of our nation’s wounded, injured, and ill combat veterans and their families.

The four-day, 310-mile bicycle ride began in Homestead, Pennsylvania, and concluded at Smokey Glen Farm in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The 2026 ride took place from October 1 through October 4, with 80+ cyclists participating in this extraordinary fundraising effort.

It was an honor to welcome the cyclists, express our gratitude for their dedication, and cheer them on as they continued toward the finish line.  It was exciting to watch the cyclists arrive beneath the Victory balloon arch, marking the completion of their challenging four-day journey.

Janice Chance, Paula Davis, Donna Robinson, and Stephanie White represented the Gold Star Mothers – Maryland Chapter at the celebration. The moms joined the enthusiastic crowd in cheering for the riders as they crossed the finish line. Afterward, they took the opportunity to thank the cyclists personally, visit with their families, and express their appreciation to the sponsors and organizers whose generosity made the event possible.

Since 2005, Ride Allegheny has supported Operation Second Chance through its annual fundraising rides. The dedication of the riders and organizers reflects their ongoing commitment to raising funds for an organization that provides meaningful assistance to wounded, injured, and ill combat veterans, their families, and Gold Star families.

The closing program was especially meaningful as Ms. Cindy McGrew expressed her gratitude to the Ride Allegheny leadership, cyclists, families, sponsors, and volunteers for their continued support of Operation Second Chance. She also recognized and thanked the Gold Star Mothers for their participation and their ongoing service to our nation’s heroes.

The highlight of the program was the presentation of a $430,000 check to Ms. McGrew on behalf of Operation Second Chance. Through their fundraising efforts since 2005, Ride Allegheny leaders and cyclists have raised more than $7.4 million for OSC, making a tremendous difference in the lives of the veterans and families the organization serves.

Following the program, everyone enjoyed a delicious barbecue dinner.
