Tree Rededication Ceremony Grove of Remembrance Baltimore, Maryland November 11, 2024

Maryland Gold Star Mothers Paula Davis, Donna Robinson and Theresa Karlson attended the tree planting/rededication ceremony at the Grove of Remembrance located at Druid Hill Park in Baltimore City, Maryland. Paula led the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new trees that were planted. On October 8, 1919, 51 swamp white oak trees were planted by the National Service Star Legion (an umbrella organization of the American War Mothers). This group included mothers in the Maryland area who lost sons during World War I. Trees were planted to honor the brave men of each state, the City of Baltimore, President Woodrow Wilson and allied forces who fought in the war.

Prior to the rededication ceremony, the Department of Recreation and Parks, along with volunteers from Boy Scouts Troop 5, and Tree Baltimore planted several new trees throughout the grove.

There are plans to restore the pavilion, which sits among the trees that held many events and Mother’s Day picnics.

Maryland Gold Star Mothers would like to thank Ted Martello of Baltimore City’s Department of Recreation and Parks for reaching out and notifying us about this living, historical treasure that honors our fallen Heroes.
