Maryland Chapter Gold Star Moms were invited by Josh Marks, Brigade Volunteer Veteran Advocate with the Carroll County Veteran Independence Project (CCVIP) to attend their Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony. Kelly Swanson, Paula Davis, and Janice Chance represented the Maryland Chapter. We were warmly welcomed by Frank Valenti, President of CCVIP, and Jason Sidock, Executive Director of CCVIP, along with the volunteers and staff. After the Pledge of Allegiance, proclamations were read from Governor Hogan, the Mayor of Westminster, and the General Assembly. Kelly, Janice, and Paula were very honored to present each Vietnam Veteran in attendance with one of our Vietnam 50th Anniversary Chapter Challenge Coin, a double flag lapel pin, and a star from a retired flag to carry in their pocket, to remind them that they are not forgotten. They were also given our Gold Star Mom salute. The Vietnam Veterans were touched by what we gave them, and even gave a few hugs! After the service was over, we were invited inside to warm up (it was chilly!) and have some refreshments. We look forward to working with the CCVIP again.
