The Gold Star Mothers Maryland Chapter members were invited to assist with serving dinner to the residents, staff and guests at the Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training (MCVET) Homeless Shelter. Donna Robinson and Janice Chance represented the MD Chapter. Prior to the meal, Mr. Abubulia Buford, Interim MCVET Director opening remarks that included words of encouragement to the residents and thanks to the MCVET Staff and supporters. Ms. Cereta Spencer, Director of Development and Community Engagement introduced also expressed her thanks and introduced the volunteers. Janice and Donna were asked to share about their hero. Janice also shared information about the Gold Star Mothers organization and was asked to say the Grace.
Donna and Janice served alongside MCVET volunteer Mr. Barry Nabozny and Mr. Michael Palumbo, Staff Workforce Development Advisor. Several other MCVET staff members also assisted with serving. Janice and Donna seized the opportunity to spend time talking with and thanking the residents for their selfless service. As a matter of fact several of the residents shared that they fondly remembered Janice and Donna from past events. It was great to see the smiles on their faces and to hear their laughter. The residents and staff expressed their appreciation for the Maryland Chapter’s continued support. Ms. Spencer also expressed thanks for the MD Chapter’s recent donation of coats. Moms were invited to return to serve at their Christmas dinner.
