American Gold Star Mothers Gold Star Commemoration Ceremony Arlington National Cemetery September 25, 2022

On September 25th, the American Gold Star Mothers Inc. (AGSM) organization held their 86th Gold Star Commemoration Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
The ceremony began with a rendition from the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” brass quintet. Immediately followed by the processional of the National Executive Board, presentation of colors, national anthem, pledge of allegiance by Patti Elliott, 2nd Vice President, AGSM, invocation by Cindy Chip, Past National President AGSM and welcome by Sarah Taylor, President AGSM. General Mark A. Miley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff made initial remarks. The keynote speaker was Brigadier General George Price, US Airforce (Ret). General Price has a long distinguished military career. Although 93 years of age, he continues to serve in several civic organizations. His wife, Dr. Laura Kafka-Price, recited the lyrics to the song “American Anthem” while playing its musical soundtrack.
Maryland Chapter Moms in attendance were Janice Chance, Donna Robinson, and Yvonne Green, along with Gold Star dads Garry Green and Charlton Chance. Also in attendance were Gold Star Mothers and family members from various states, senior military leaders, members of various veteran service organizations, and other supporters. The day started off cloudy, but the sun was shining brightly throughout the ceremony.
