On Saturday, Maryland proudly welcomed 100 military families to Government House in celebration of Blue Star Welcome Week. This national initiative helps military and veteran families feel connected and supported as they settle into new communities.
Hosted by Governor Wes Moore, First Lady Dawn Moore, and the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families (DVMF), in partnership with Blue Star Families, the event honored the strength, resilience, and service of those who serve—and those who serve alongside them.
Gold Star Mothers Maryland Chapter members Janice Chance, Paula Davis, and Stephanie White attended the event as guests, representing families who continue to serve through remembrance and community engagement.
“Through Maryland Joins Forces’ partnership with Blue Star Families, we are building stronger networks of support for service members, veterans, and their loved ones,” said Acting Secretary Ed Rothstein of the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families. “Together with the Moore-Miller Administration, we reaffirm Maryland’s commitment to those who serve and those who serve alongside them.”
Speaker, Kathy Roth-Douquet, CEO of Blue Star Families, praised Maryland’s leadership, stating, “Maryland is proving that military families aren’t just serving our nation—they’re strengthening our communities and our future. This is a real impact and a powerful example for other states to follow.”
Through the Maryland Joins Forces partnership with Blue Star Families, DVMF continues to expand networks of support for service members, veterans, and their loved ones.
