The Thurmont Lions club, along with the American Legion post 168 hosted their 24th annual 9/11 memorial service. Gold Star mother Julie El-Taher welcomed guests and provided a moment of silence to remember all who paid the highest price on that day. The Thurmont police, the Frederick Sheriff’s, Guardian Hose, and Thurmont Ambulance companies were in attendance (along with local fire and ambulance but unfortunately were called away). Scout troop 270 posted the colors and led the pledge. It was a beautiful service.
Julie also spoke about the Gold Star Families Monument, which is anticipated to be placed in the park next year. So far, Julie has raised $5,400. Kinnaird Memorials in Thurmont has offered to donate their services to set the foundation and assist with monument installations.
If you would like to donate to this memorable monument, please write a check to the Thurmont Lions Club and make a note that is for the Gold Star Monument project. You may send checks to Thurmont Lions Club, P.O. Box 306, Thurmont, Maryland 21788.
