Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake – Veterans Build Baltimore, Maryland November 15, 2024

On November 15th, Maryland Chapter Gold Star Mothers were invited to participate in the Annual Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake Veterans Build by Brandon Jerome, Volunteer Engagement Manager.  Gold Star moms Janice Chance and Paula Davis represented the Maryland Chapter.  Joined with the Habitat Volunteer team, supporters, and volunteers from various organizations, they all came together to build affordable homes for families in need.  After a safety briefing, the Gold Star Moms were given training on how to paint baseboard trim, and how to prepare concrete floor to be painted.  A day of painting, dry vacuuming, and wet mopping the concrete floor was halted when lunchtime hit.  Lunch was donated by the Gold Star Mothers – Maryland Chapter.  The Moms were also able to share about the services and support that the Maryland Chapter provides, along with sharing briefly about their fallen heroes’ selfless service and sacrifice. We left with some soreness and the satisfaction of spending the day among friendly people, helping to build a home for a family in need. The volunteers and the Habitat Staff expressed their appreciation for our help.
