The Gold Star Mothers Maryland Chapter members were invited by Mr. Neil Hamrick, Fundraiser Chairman and Committee of the Annual Marathon Bluegrass Jam to volunteer at their Annual Fisher House fundraiser event. The Maryland Marathon Jam committee invited local bands to participate in 8 hours of non-stop bluegrass music. Janice Chance represented the Maryland Chapter. Janice served alongside the American legion post Auxiliary members. She assisted with the money wheel table. In addition to volunteering the Maryland Chapter also donated $1000.00. Janice seized the opportunity to thank the veterans and their family. The fellowship was sweet and the food was delicious. There were plenty of silent auction items to bid on, raffles for donated instruments, other items and a 50/50 raffle. The bands were great. The music helped to provide an atmosphere of excitement. Several groups also presented checks to the Chairman throughout the event. The event was well attended. The Fisher is best known for building comfort homes where military & veteran families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is receiving medical care. The homes are located at military and VA medical centers around the country. The Fisher House Foundation has plans to place a home on the Maryland Perry Point Medical Center property.
