The Maryland Gold Star Mothers and their guests were invited to attend the 48th Annual Military Appreciation Month Luncheon sponsored by The Harford County Chamber of Commerce and local businesses, which was held at Top of The Bay located at Aberdeen Proving Ground. The luncheon is held annually to honor members of the United States Armed Forces and the civilian workforce of Aberdeen Proving Grounds (APG) for their service, sacrifice, and contributions to the Nation, abroad and within the community.
The premier sponsor of the event was Freedom Federal Credit Union. University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health, Chosen Community Development Corporation, and Ourisman Toyota 40 were the Gold Star Sponsors. There were also several elected officials, APG leadership staff, representatives of local businesses, and other supporters in attendance. Following a delicious lunch, all Active Duty and Veterans, along with the Gold Star Mothers and spouses, were recognized. The Harford County Executive, Robert Cassilly welcomed the Gold Star Families and discussed how Harford County and Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), work together for the people of the community as well as the military. Major General James (Jim) Turinetti, IV, Senior Commander of Aberdeen Proving Ground, followed with remarks. The following awards were presented to the Soldier of the Year and Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year Recognition, Freestate Challenge Academy Scholarship Award, and the Appel Award.
