Military Appreciation Day at Aberdeen Proving Grounds
May 16, 2012
Military appreciation day was a wonderful time! For those who missed it, Aberdeen Proving Grounds (APG) overdid themselves again. The morning started out with a special breakfast for all Gold Star Families. Roses were given to the moms and wives. Pictures were taken, escorts were assigned and a wonderful breakfast was given to us. From there there was the surprise to end all. The Garrison Command at APG under the direction of Major General Ferrell and Col Ortiz construction a LARGE permanent gazabo in honor of Gold Star Families. It is screened in and available to us to use, visit, mediate or pray. It is located behind the chapel. They want us to know that we will always be a part of the army community. We had a ribbon cutting ceremony with the commanders and the Mayor of Aberdeen. Just wonderful…
From there there was a special ceremony on the grounds of the musuem, and displays to visit as well as sitting in a black hawk ( just ask Janice). After changing clothes and putting on our new T-shirts that were made for us (thank you Kathy Mitchell) we went to the Bowie Baysox game. We used this opportunity to set up a table, give out brochures and for donations we gave away, pins, wrist bands and dog tags. We had a raffle drawing and had 5 items donated as give-aways (thanks to Cindy Lohman). The game went into extra innings, but we were out of there by 10:30 with over $200 for our bank account.
Good news for the Eastern shore girls!!!! Toni Coffland has agreed to start and help me organize a chapter on the Eastern Shore. I have given her information and sent an e-mail to headquarters in Washington DC, so hopefully on June 4th we can have a kickoff. You will have a choice whether to remain with the Maryland chapter, be a part of the new chapter or remain with the Delaware chapter. As soon as I get more information, we will contact you.
